Four million Americans got COVID-19 vaccination shots on Saturday, April 3. The previous single day vaccination record was just over 3 million.
President Biden’s goal to vaccinate 100 million Americans in the first 100 days of his presidency was shattered in half that time and the project to vaccinate as many Americans as possible as fast as possible is gaining momentum every day.
The CDC’s director Rochelle Walensky has cautioned that it’s a race between vaccination efforts and the spread of pernicious covid variants that are more contagious than the original strain. As more states open up schools, dining and other venues, covid numbers are going up, despite the vaccinations.
Everyone’s favorite immunologist, medical expert, and tiny Italian, Dr. Anthony Fauci has also urged patience and caution, but he has also been uncharacteristically upbeat. He told CNN’s Jim Acosta, “We are going to get to where [people] want to be, where I want to be, where you want to be — where we have enough people protected with the vaccines that we can go out and watch the cherry blossoms, and we can go out and enjoy as we get warmer weather.”
